A memory monitor for your menu bar

See what’s eating your RAM.

Then end it, safely.

RAMen groups every running process by what started it, so the 1.6 GB behind three Chrome tabs, or a terminal you forgot six days ago, finally makes sense.

One-time purchase. macOS 14 or later.

Activity Monitor shows you four hundred names. It never says who’s responsible.

1.6 GB

Chrome with three tabs open. Fifteen helper processes you never see make up the rest.

832 MB

A terminal session left running for six days, long after you stopped looking at it.

1.5 GB

Browser tools started by AI coding agents, one copy per session, all of them idle.

Every process, traced back to whoever started it.

RAMen sorts the hundreds of things running on your Mac into four groups you already understand.

Grouped by origin

Helpers fold under their app. Programs sit under the terminal tab that runs them. Background tools show what spawned them.

  • AAppsChrome and its 15 helpers, as one line
  • TTerminalopencode in herdr, running 6 days
  • BBackgroundcodex app-server and 6 it started
  • mmacOS406 system processes, explained

and about 0% CPU while the panel is closed. Native Swift, nothing running in a browser.

Ends things politely

Every End starts with the same request as ⌘Q. Force quit only appears if something refuses.

Quits Google Chrome normally, like ⌘Q. Its 15 helper processes close with it.

CancelEnd
Asking Google Chrome to close
Closed. 1.6 GB back for everything else.

One helper at a time

Open any group and stop a single process: one stuck tab, one leftover tool, without closing the rest.

  • Google Chrome Helper (Renderer)689 MB
  • Google Chrome Helper (GPU)212 MB
  • npm exec @playwright/mcp194 MB

macOS, in plain words

System processes stay view-only, each with a one-line explanation.

WindowServer
Draws every window, the Dock and menu bar. Grows with open windows, displays and transparency.
mds_stores
Spotlight: stores the index of your files.

Questions

Is it safe to end processes?

RAMen always asks politely first, the same request as pressing ⌘Q. Force quit only appears if something refuses for a few seconds. It never touches macOS system processes, and it checks each process is still the one you picked before it acts.

Why isn’t it on the Mac App Store?

App Store apps are sandboxed, which stops them from seeing or ending other apps’ processes. That happens to be the whole point of RAMen, so it’s sold directly.

Which Macs does it run on?

Apple silicon Macs running macOS 14 Sonoma or later.

How many Macs can I use it on?

One license works on up to 2 Macs. Moving to a new Mac? Deactivate the old one from the app and activate the new one.

Does RAMen collect any data?

No. Everything it shows is read on your Mac and stays there. The only time it goes online is to check your license key.
